Register an LLC in Another State

Register your LLC in another state

Your LLC is already formed and you are expanding into a second state. This site walks the order of work: first what you do at home, then what you file in the new state, then what keeps the registration alive. Mainstay Filing can take it all off your hands.

Before, during, after

  1. Before. Confirm the LLC is active at home and, in some states, order a certificate.
  2. During. File the new state’s application and pay its fee.
  3. After. Keep the agent and the yearly filing current.

Questions

I already have an LLC. What is the first thing to do?

Check that it is active in the state where it was formed. 36 states also want a certificate from that state before they will register it.

Do I form a new LLC in the other state?

No. A foreign registration lets the same LLC operate in the second state. It does not create a new company.

Who can handle it?

Mainstay Filing does the registration for $199 plus the state fee, with the agent free for year one.
